25 Years Ago - The Okarche Warriorettes High School Girls Basketball team won
their second State Championship Title in a Row!
This month, we will dedicate our Basketball Court by recognizing the players who played from 1980 to 1983.
The last time the Okarche Girls won the coveted title was in 1980-81 & 1981-82.
Okarche Warriorettes won back to back State Championships in Class 2A & A without losing a game thru District, Regionals & Area.
A feat that most teams do not get the opportunity to do as most of the time, the Class rarely changes as it is based on attendance.
Members of the 1980-81 team are listed below:
Seniors: Carla Stroh, Kit Otis, Kim Purdue
Juniors: Beverly McCarthy, Nancy Eischen, Lisa Forky, Diane Coffey & Jackie Annuschat
Sophomores: Jackie Wittrock, Kathy Rother, Donna Eischen, Rhonda Kochenower
My junior year was an outstanding season, our team went undefeated with a record of 31-0.
We were coached by Ron McMillan who was more known for his talented baseball coaching
than for coaching in girls basketball.
Over the years, this quickly changed as he was given the team of a lifetime to Coach. This team
played every game as if it was their last. And the seniors who had played most of their grade school
years and high school years went out on top, every athletes dream. To go out a WINNER!
Members of the 1981-82 team are listed below:
Seniors: Beverly McCarthy, Nancy Eischen, Lisa Forky, Diane Coffey
Juniors: Jackie Wittrock, Kathy Rother, Donna Eischen, Rhonda Kochenower
Sophomores: Gina Borelli, Carlene Mansfield, Sharon Pinkerton, Brenda Rother, Julie Eischen
With a Dynasty in the Western part of the state, my Senior Class racked up 60 wins in a row which spanned our Sophomore, Junior and Senior years.
This team never lost a tournament or Conference, tied a few conference Titles until......
our Senior year when Okeene defeated the Okarche Warriorettes in the State Semi-Final game
in 1982-83. This was when we are on our quest for a Three-Peat.
All good things must eventually come to an end, but for this team, it had been a ride of a lifetime. T
This team beat some of the most prestigious teams in the State of Oklahoma.
To get to State is an honor, to win the Title is remarkable. (For more details, see History-Okarche)
This team won every tournament played in for three years including the most prestigious
Mid-America Tournament of Champions in Oklahoma which is by invitation only.
This team attracted 10K fans a game at State. The attendance record may still be on the books for Class A & Class 2A team attendance.
