The Bitterroot National Forest has been asked to provide the Capitol Christmas Tree for 2008. We have
the opportunity to showcase all that is special about Montana - the beauty of her natural resources, the
products and services of her businesses, thee richness of her cultures, and the talents and generosity
of her people.

Since 1970, Congress has asked the United States Forest Service to provide the
Christmas Tree for the lawn of the Nation's Capitol. On the Thursday following

Thanksgiving, "the tree" is decorated with thousands of hand made ornaments and lit
with thousands of lights ~ its lighting signifies the beginning of the Christmas season
in Washington DC. Throughout the following weeks, the tree is appreciated by people
across our nation via news print, television and in person, for the special time and the
special place that it symbolizes.
